Trail Angels of Trout Lake

In the early 1990’s not many Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) hikers visited Trout Lake – located about 11 miles from the nearest trailhead. Today, with easy communication to arrange a ride via mobile phones and the internet, plus the popularization of the PCT by the 2014 movie “Wild,” Trout Lake has become one of the most popular places to resupply and Zero*.

The Trail Angels of Trout Lake stand ready to lend a hand to about 2,500 PCT hikers every year… giving rides from the trailhead to town and back again, storing hiker package drops, providing a place to pitch a tent in the back yard, share a barbeque, take a shower, and do a load of laundry. Following is a list of available Trail Angel and commercial services.

* Zero means taking a day off the trail, thus hiking zero miles.

If you want to visit Trout Lake for a resupply from FSR 88 there are a limited number of Transportation Angels with varying levels of availability providing rides from FSR 88 to Trout Lake. See the list below.

From Trout Lake you will need either a) return to FSR 88 and use the PCTA Established Detour, 62-mile walk around, or b) find a way back to the Columbia River Gorge, up I-5, and on to Packwood. You can either hitch a ride or we have a limited number of drivers who can take a few folks to White Salmon and Hood River where they can catch transportation off trail. See Transportation Off Trail below. We have some drivers willing to make the trip to Packwood, but probably not enough to accommodate everyone in a timely manner.

  • Forest Service Road 23
  • The Mt. Adams Wilderness Area
